CranioSacral Therapy

Cranio Sacral Therapy is a form of bodywork that addresses the subtle inherent healing capacity of the body. Using a combination of gentle holds, manual movement, and verbal contact, the purpose of Cranio Sacral Therapy is to access the underlying health that is always present in the body. A particular focus of mine in CranioSacral sessions is the nervous system, helping you to cultivate a resourced and regulated nervous system. I believe the nervous system is the foundation. It is what guides our responses, it signals our brains and our muscles, it inspires movement and beliefs.

Sometimes our nervous systems get patterned to react in a particular way to certain stimuli. This pattern may have served us at some point in our lives, but often our nervous system needs to be told (often more than once) when it's ok to move out of a patterned response. This is one of the fundamental pieces of CranioSacral Therapy. It is a space in which to bring your nervous system into the present moment, releasing patterned responses that are no longer serving you. Those responses can show up on many different levels: physical (chronic pain, muscle tension, etc), mental (habitual thought patterns), and emotional responses. During a CranioSacral session, we explore those responses through physical and verbal contact, and allow for a possibility of releasing those which are no longer serving, thus finding a well-regulated nervous system. This is often the starting point (and sometimes even the main focus) of the work. From this base, a multitude of possibilities of healing begin to open up, and often much if that healing begins to happen on its own, once the nervous system is in a place of healthy regulation.

My role as therapist is to support your system as it finds ways to release trauma and tension patterns and to help access the inherent health in your system. One goal of Cranio Sacral Therapy is to empower you to be an active participant in your own healing. To facilitate this, there can be a lot of dialogue during the course of a session (sometimes a session may not even involve any time on the table, depending on your needs), tracking sensations in your body and working with whatever is arising. I don't generally follow a specific protocol for Cranio Sacral sessions, I simply listen to you and listen to what your body is asking for support around and go from there. Cranio Sacral Therapy draws on many different practices including Osteopathy, Polarity Therapy, Massage, and Somatic Experiencing. It is a great modality for working with trauma (emotional and physical), chronic pain, depression, sleep issues, headaches, TMJ dysfunction and injuries.
